Fine Paid, Sherk Free to Fight

Lightweight Sean Sherk
(Pictures) has been released from the
active suspension handed down to him following a positive test for
steroids last July, the California State Athletic Commission
announced Monday afternoon.
Commissioners halved a year-long suspension in December, making Sherk potentially eligible to fight in early January.
Following his UFC lightweight title-defending performance in
Sacramento, Calif., versus Hermes Franca (Pictures), the 34-year-old Minnesotan
remained suspended, however, while his $2,500 went unpaid, said
CSAC representative Bill Douglas.
"In every case, the suspension rolls on until all terms are completed," Douglas told Sherdog.com. "Sean completed the last one today."
Officially, Sherk, who sports an impressive 31-2-1 record, was suspended from July 7, 2007 through April 14, 2008.
Stripped of the UFC belt he captured versus Kenny Florian (Pictures), Sherk returns to action May 24 against current UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn (Pictures).
