Brooksie Bayard vs. Shaianna Rincon

Round 1

Rincon is making her professional debut in this bantamweight clash. Rincon lands a right hand before the combatants clinch. The jockey for position against the fence before Rincon is able to take Bayard to the canvas. “Yaya” quickly transitions to Bayard’s back and looks to slide her arm under the chin for a choke. That attempt is unsuccessful, but Rincon has both hooks in as she lands hard left and right hands to the side of Bayard’s head. Eventually Bayard turns and ends up on top in Rincon’s guard. Bayard creates some spaces and lands a few punches before returning to her feet. She allows Rincon to stand and they exchange for a bit before Rincon closes the distance and trips Bayard to the mat. Bayard scrambles back up and they separate from the clinch with 30 seconds remaining. Rincon lands an outside leg kick before the period ends. 10-9 Rincon.

Round 2

Rincon comes out landing jabs and right hands in an initial exchange. “Yaya” presses forward and connects with a hard right hand. Bayard goes high with a kick, but it’s mostly blocked. Rincon comes back with a one-two combination. Bayard forces the clinch and pushes Rincon against the fence. However, it’s Rincon that rocks Bayard with some standing elbows, and they separate briefly. Rincon closes the distance and looks to take Bayard’s back from the standing position. Bayard changes levels and goes hard for a takedown. Rincon elects to roll for an armbar attempt but Bayard avoids the maneuver. Baryard stands and kicks at Rincon’s legs as “Yaya” stays on her back. Referee Mike England orders a standup and Rincon comes up firing more strong straight shots. Bayard’s face is starting to show the damage from Rincon’s punches, and she continues to eat shots when attempting to close the distance. Rincon lands another right hand before the bell sounds. 10-9 Rincon.

Rincon comes out aggressively with straight punches. Bayard throws her foe into the fence and lands a knee. Bayard rushes forward with punches and ties up with Rincon. Rincon just misses a standing elbow. Rincon jabs and throws body kicks to keep Bayard at bay. Rincon continues to use her jab to halt Bayard when she comes forward. A solid left from Rincon draws a smile from Bayard. The bantamweights tie up and Rincon gets an underhook and lands a knee upstairs with Bayard against the fence. Bayard frees herself and turns Rincon into the fence. They separate, and Bayard continues to eat straight shots as she comes forward. Bayard forces the clinch and lands some knees to the body and short punches in close quarters to close out the contest. 10-9 Rincon (30-27 Rincon)

Christine Ferea vs. Tiffany Van Soest

Round 1

The strawweights start out trading leg kicks in the center of the cage. Other than that, it’s a measured beginning for both women as they attempt to feel each other out on the feet. Ferea lands a hard kick to Van Soest’s lead leg and Van Soest answers with a crisp right hand. Van Soest snaps a kick to Ferea’s lead leg. Ferea picks up the pressure and lands a knee to the gut. Van Soest counters with a short elbow. Ferea catches a kick and pushes Van Soest into the cage. Ferea lands a couple knees to the body while she controls the clinch. Ferea lands an elbow to the head, and she continues to grind away against the fence. Ferrea lands a spinning back elbow on the break, but Van Soest appears to be no worse for wear. Ferea taunts Van Soest and marches forward with a kick to the body. 10-9 Ferea.

Round 2

Van Soest lands an inside leg kick and a jab. Van Soest is more aggressive overall to begin this round, mixing up her low kicks and punches upstairs. Ferea rushes forward and lands a right hand. Ferea continues to pressure but Van Soest circles out of danger, and nothing significant connects. Ferea blocks a kick upstairs from Van Soest. They tie up in the center of the cage and Van Soest pushes her foe into the fence. Van Soest lands an elbow and they separate. Both strawweights land punches in a brief flurry. Van Soest goes with a high kick followed by a spinning back fist but neither lands cleanly. Van Soest lands a kick upstairs and Ferea counters with a combination. Fera falls on a kick and Van Soest lands three or four kicks to Ferea’s legs before she is able to hustle back to her feet. Ferea tries to punch her way into the cllinch but Van Soest moves away. 10-9 Van Soest.

Van Soest took two rounds from Ferea.
Van Soest connects with a solid outside leg kick to start the round and then throws a high kick that’s blocked. Van Soest lands a left hand as Ferea comes forward. Ferea forces the clinch but it’s Van Soest that lands on top, and she lands some hard punches that might have stunned Ferea. Ferea ends up in Van Soest’s guard in a scramble at the 3:30 mark. Ferea attempts to posture up and create space for punches, but Van Soest’s high guard is limiting her offense. Ferea lands some elbows from above, and Van Soest answers with elbows from her back. Ferea stands and drops some right hands before Van Soest pushes her away. Ferea attempts to clear her opponent’s legs. Van Soest briefly threatens with a heel hook but Ferea scrambles into side control with a little more than a minute to go. Ferea continues to maintain side control before stepping into full mount with 10 seconds to go. Van Soest tries to buck Ferea off and the round ends with Ferea flurrying away from the dominant position. 10-9 Ferea (29-28 Ferea).

Ediane Gomes vs. Pam Sorenson

Round 1

Sorenson lands a couple clean jabs and then a straight right hand in the early going. Gomes pushes Sorenson against the cage and muscles her to the canvas. Gomes works from half guard, landing periodic left and right hands. Sorenson recovers full guard but Gomes remains heavy on top. Gomes creates some room and lands three or four hard elbows. Sorenson is moving her hips and adjusting her guard in hopes of framing a submission, but Gomes continues to club her with elbows from above for her troubles. Gomes is now working the body and the head with punches from top position. Sorenson is able to push Gomes away and she kicks the thighs as Gomes stands. Gomes punches her way back into guard and then quickly transitions to mount. Gomes is bleeding after eating an upkick going in. Gomes fails on an armbar in the round’s waning moments and Sorenson ends up on top in a scramble. 10-9 Gomes.

Round 2

Sorenson throws a lazy low kick and Gomes answers with a barrage of power punches. The Brazilian keeps on the pressure as she backs Sorenson into the cage. Gomes forces the clinch, and the featherweights trade knees in close. Gomes goes upstairs with an elbow and punch and Sorenson misses on elbow of her own on the break. Gomes marches forward and lands a big overhand right before taking her opponent to the mat. Gomes gets started in Sorenson’s half guard near the base of the cage, but “Bam” is able to recapture full guard. Gomes stays heavy on top but doesn’t land much in the way of offense and referee Mike England orders the fighters to stand. Gomes continues to throw big overhand rights as she moves forward. Sorenson counters with a right hand, then lands a hard low kick to her opponent’s lead leg. A left jab from Sorenson finds its home. Sorenson counters effectively in the later portion of the frame. 10-9 Gomes.

Gomes bested Sorenson.
Sorenson begins with a combination, then lands a right to the body. Sorenson lands a left jab followed by a right uppercut to the body. Sorenson jabs and than lands a low kick. Gomes has slowed and Sorenson is initiating in exchanges. Gomes closes the range and lands some hard shots before Sorenson circles away from the fence. The Brazilian is stalking her foe and lands another right hand. Sorenson connects with a counter right hand. Sorenson lands a one-two and then dodges Gomes counter offering. Gomes counters a push kick with a straight right. Sorenson finds the range with more straight punches while Gomes misses a couple heavy right hands. Gomes goes for a takedown for the clinch. Sorenson stuffs it and allows her opponent to stand back up. The fighters exchange one last time before the round expires. 10-9 Sorenson (29-28 Gomes).

Andrea Lee vs. Liz Tracy

Round 1

Lee takes the center of the cage as Tracy circles on the outside. Tracy shoots early and Lee sprawls successfully. Lee lands several hard knees in the clinch before taking Tracy down from a rear body lock. Tracy stands and Lee connects with a couple more knees upstairs. Tracy is finally able to trip Lee to the canvas, and she lands in her foe’s half guard. Lee rolls out of danger as Tracy attempts a kimura. Lee then frees herself from an armbar and the flyweights are back up. Tracy catches a body kick but can’t get Lee down. They tie up in the center of the cage and “KGB” drives Tracy to the ground. Lee tries to take the back, but Tracy wants to slide out the back door. Lee responds by hunting for an armbar, but eventually Tracy pulls the arm free and winds up in side control with less than 30 seconds to go. Tracy stands and sits back for a leg lock near but can’t get it as the round ends. 10-9 Lee.

Round 2

Lee goes back to taking the enter of the cage. Lee’s mouthpiece flies out as she throws a combination. Tracy obliges and allows the referee to pick up the mouthguard and return it to Lee. “KGB” lands a jab and then sprawls on a Tracy takedown. Tracy pops up and drives Lee into the cage. They jockey for position and Lee lands a knee before they separate. Lee continues to control the range with her jab. Lee ends a multi-punch combination with a knee against the fence. A punch from Lee appears to drop Tracy to a knee, but she maintains a body lock to avoid further punishment. They separate with less than a minute to go. Tracy catches a kick and clinches. Tracy is able to throw Lee to the canvas with 15 seconds to remaining, and she ends the frame in side control. 10-9 Lee.

Lee won her third straight contest.
Lee counters a Tracy front quick with a nice jab. Tracy shoots and tries to drag Lee to the mat, but “KGB” shoves her foe away. Lee eats a hard right hand coming in. Tracy changes levels and briefly lands a takedown. Lee is up quickly, however. Tracy shoves her adversary into the fence and eventually drags Lee down to a seated position. Again, Lee battles back up. Tracy is undeterred, and she continues to pummel and dig for underhooks in the clinch. They eventually separate and Lee gets the better of another exchange. Lee is mixing her shots to the body and head now. They tie up and Lee goes for a trip takedown; Tracy reverses it and lands in side control. Tracy attempts to isolate Lee’s right arm, but she can’t hold the position. Lee scrambles back up. Tracy maintains the clinch and drops for a double-leg takedown. Lee defends and the flyweights end the frame battling for position against the fence. 10-9 Tracy. (29-28 Lee).

Kelly Faszholz vs. Elizabeth Phillips

Round 1

Phillips throws a one-two as Faszholz works her way into the clinch. Faszholz lands a knee before they separate after a brief struggle against the fence. Faszholz forces the clinch again and defends a Phillips attempt to trip her to the floor. Faszholz grabs a body lock and lands some knees to the thigh. She attempts to work her way to Phillips back. Faszholz lifts Phillips briefly but can’t get her down. They break and Phillips throws wildly, but it’s Faszholz who is connecting cleanly. After a wild flurry, they tie up again, with Faszholz pushing Phillips into the fence. After a period of inactivity, they’re ordered to break. Faszholz pushes forward and lands a combination and a knee before the round ends. Phillips is biting down on her mouthpiece and swinging in response, but she isn’t landing much. 10-9 Faszholz.

Round 2

Faszholz and Phillips trade early, but Faszholz continues to lands cleanly while Phillips remains wild with her punches. A one-two for Faszholz lands and they clinch. Faszholz shoves her foe away and lands an elbow and more punches. They’re back in the clinch now, and Faszholz drives a knee into Phillips’ midsection. A jab from Faszholz sends Phillips backward briefly. Faszholz is bleeding from the nose after eating a Phillips left hand. Faszholz dodges a right hand and counters with a combination. Phillips finds the rands on a body kick, but Faszholz presses forward and briefly pushes her opponent into the fence. Faszholz secures a body lock with less than a minute to go and attempts to move around to her foe’s back. Faszholz drops for a takedown and Phillips stops it with a blatant fence grab. Phillips gets a warning before the round ends. 10-9 Faszholz.

Faszholz left little doubt on the cards.
Faszholz tags Phillips with a couple right hands before forcing the clinch. There she lands elbows and punches to the head while maintaining control. Faszholz misses a hook as they break. Philips seems tentative on the outside, and Faszholz closes the distance and lands another right hand. Faszholz is doing a good job of landing and then moving out of danger. Phillips counters with a decent right hand, but Faszholz continues to have the edge in overall volume. They clinch and this time Phillips is able to trip her opponent down with about 1:30 remaining. Phillips stacks her foe and tries to land some right hands. Faszholz pushes off the fence with her legs. Phillips stands and Faszholz grabs a heel hook. She gives up on the hold and ends the round with a rear-waist lock on Phillips. 10-9 Faszholz (30-27 Faszholz).

Tessa Simpson vs. Herica Tiburcio

Round 1

Simpson catches a kick and drives Tiburcio to the ground. Tiburcio stands and Simpson pushes the Brazilian against the fence. Tiburcio uses an underhook to reverse the position and get a takedown of her own. Tiburcio creates some room and lands an elbow, but for the most part Simpson is controlling her head and staying busy with strikes from the bottom. Simpson attempts to frame a triangle but Tiburcio is able to dive back into her foe’s guard. Simpson transitions to a heel hook. Tiburcio frees herself and stands. Simpson is up shortly thereafter. Simpson catches a kick to the body and dumps Tiburcio to the mat. Simpson is in the Brazilian’s guard, but Tiburcio tries for a heel hook. Simpson defends it well and ends the round landing a few elbows. 10-9 Tiburcio.

Round 2

Simpson lands a jab in an initial exchange. Tiburcio connects with a straight right. Plenty of faking and feinting but neither fighter lands for about a minute before they clinch against the fence. Simpson has an underhook and she grinds away. The atomweights trade foot stomps and knees before Tiburcio is able to power Simpson down. The Brazilian passes guard and moves to north-south position. Simpson scrambles and recovers full guard. Tiburcio stands and dodges an upkick from Simpson. Another scramble ensues and Tiburcio drops for a guillotine near the fence. Simpson pops her head free and Tiburcio briefly tries for a leg lock. Simpson defends that as well and ends the frame landing moderate ground-and-pound from above. 10-9 Simpson.

Tiburcio did just enough to taste victory.
Simpson throws a combination and connects with a right hand. They clinch briefly and Simpson lands a knee to the body on the break. Simpson counters a leg kick with a straight right. Simpson lands a hard right hand and Tiburcio returns the favor. Tiburcio finds the range on an outside leg kick. Tiburcio is stalking Simpson near the fence, where she changes levels and gets the takedown. With a little less than two minutes remaining, the Brazilian goes to work from half guard. Simpson attempts to use her guard to create space, but Tiburcio shoves her back down to the mat. Tiburcio stacks her foe and lands some hammerfists. Simpson shoves her foe away and stands. Simpson charges forward and lands a knee to the body before the bell sounds. 10-9 Tiburcio (29-28 Tiburcio).

Sarah D'Alelio vs. Roxanne Modafferi

Round 1

D’Alelio instantly drops Modafferi with a short right hand. “The Happy Warrior” pops back up and seems to have regathered her bearings. D’Alelio pops Modafferi with an uppercut. “The Monster” again finds a home for an uppercut. Modafferi catches D’Alelio with a combination as her opponent presses forward. D’Alelio is on the retreat and she tumbles to the canvas as Modafferi lands a left hand. Modafferi follows her down and sets up shop in guard. D’Alelio attempts to isolate an arm, but Modafferi scrambles out of danger. “The Happy Warrior” transitions to D’Alelio’s back and gets both hooks in. D’Alelio rolls and slams her way out of an armbar attempt. D’Alelio is now on top and she stands ot land some punches. Modafferi gets the arm and extends it, but D’Alelio slams her foe down several times to free her limb before the round expires. Modafferi was spiked on her head and is helped back to her corner. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 2

Modafferi drops D’Alelio with a punch and then pounces into full mount. She hammers away and D’Alelio gives up her back. Modafferi has her hooks in as she fishes for the rear-naked choke. Modafferi stays busy with right hands to the side of the head. D’Alelio tries to spin out of danger and Modafferi transitions to an armbar in the scramble. “The Happy Warrior” can’t secure the hold but she attempts an omaplata before switching to a triangle. D’Alelio maintains good posture as Modafferi briefly tries to isolate an arm. D’Alelio defends that well and tries to land some right hands from full guard. Modafferi executes a beautiful kimura sweep into full mount with about 1:00 left. D’Alelio rolls and now Modafferi lands right hands from back control. Modafferi mixes up punches and elbow from the back as time runs out. 10-9 Modafferi.

Modafferi opened up D’Alelio.
Modafferi pressures forward with punching combinations and kicks. D’Alelio appears to be reeling as Modafferi pours it on. Modafferi unloads with punches before changing levels for a takedown near the fence. Modafferi moves to full mount and grapevines her legs around D’Alelio’s. Modafferi is alternating short punches and elbows from above. A short elbow from Modafferi busts D’Alelio wide open and she continues her assault with a few more strikes until referee Mike England intervenes on D’Alelio’s behalf. D’Alelio is bleeding profusely from her head as the contest ends.

Agnieszka Niedzwiedz vs. Vanessa Porto

Round 1

Porto counters a lazy front kick with a right hand. Porto throws a punch over the top and tries for a takedown, but Niedzwiedz defends easily. Niedzwiedz lands an inside leg kick. There is already a welt on Niedzwiedz’s face from the first punch landed by Porto. Niedzwiedz changes levels and explodes for a takedown. The Pole stands and tries to rain down punches. Porto gets up and drives Niedzwiedz to the mat. Niedzwiedz grabs a guillotine but she doesn’t have the proper leverage, as Porto is in half guard. Niedzwiedz gives up on the submission and battles to her feet. Porto tries to drag her back down but the Polish prospect defends the attempt. Niedzwiedz snaps Porto with a hard left jab and gets a takedown. From there, Niedzwiedz lands several right hands from side control before rolling for an anaconda choke as time runs out. 10-9 Niedzwiedz.

Round 2

Niedzwiedz lands a nice kick to the chest before tying up Porto. Porto shucks her opponent off but Niedzwiedz changes levels and gets Porto down. The Brazilian transitions into top position and applies pressure on Niedzwiedz’s head with her left shoulder. Porto stands and lands a couple hammerfists. She dives back into guard and Niedzwiedz attempts to frame a triangle. It’s a difficult angle for the Polish fighter to complete the submission, and Porto is trying gradually free herself. Niedzwiedz throws some punches from her back in hopes of isolating an arm. Porto, meanwhile, attempts to slam her way out of danger. Niedzwiedz drops to her belly with 30 seconds left and the flyweights spend the remainder of the round in a modified north-south position. 10-9 Niedzwiedz.

Niedwiedz was too much for Porto.
The combatants touch gloves to begin the final frame. Porto lands an inside leg kick followed by a jab. Porto goes back to the leg kick, this time to the outside. Niedzwiedz lands a counter right hand. Porto continues to chop away at Niedzwiedz’s legs. Niedzwiedz drops for a single leg, but Porto gets away rather easily. Niedzwiedz lands a combination as Porto moves forward. Porto shrugs off another Niedzwiedz takedown try. Porto remains the aggressor, and leg kicks continue to be her weapon of choice in this stanza. Niedzwiedz eats a kick but is able to land a takedown with a little more than a minute to go. Porto returns to her feet quickly. Niedzwiedz misses a spinning back fist. The Pole has blood pouring from her nose. Porto closes the distance and tries to drag her foe down with a body lock as the round ends. 10-9 Porto (29-28 Niedzwiedz).
