Invicta FC Signs Nine New Fighters to Contracts

By Mike Sloan May 11, 2017
Invicta FC made a splash on Thursday as it announced the singing of nine new fighters to its roster. The mass signing is anchored by the addition of Brazilian strawweight Virna Jandiroba, an undefeated prospect with tons of upside.

Jandiroba (11-0), already holds wins over UFC veterans Lisa Ellis and Ericka Almeida. “Carcara” is a wizard on the ground as well, having submitted nine of her 11 foes, with two-thirds of those subs coming in the first round.

Aside from Jandiroba, six other flyweights have joined the Invicta FC roster: Italy’s Mara Romero Borella; South Korea’s Chan-Mi Jeon; Barbara Acioly of Brazil; Karina Rodriguez from Mexico; Cheri Muraski from the U.S. and Tuff-N-Uff 125-pound champ Tracy Cortez, who will make her pro debut this year.

“There are a lot of eyeballs on the 125-pound weight class right now,” said Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp. “We have a card coming up on May 20 that showcases some of the best flyweights in the world. Being able to add such a talented group of athletes to that flyweight mix will only push the entire division further. We're expecting to see great match-ups right away, while also looking ahead to the exciting opportunities our younger prospects will have as they develop here at Invicta.”

Invicta FC also tacked on amateur standouts Jillian DeCoursey and Ashley Medina, both from the U.S., who will compete at atomweight. Knapp stated that all nine women are expected to make their promotional debuts in 2017, though specific dates were not mentioned.
