Israel Adesanya’s Ultimate Fighting Championship debut sure whipped folks into a frenzy.
Just 12 days after making a successful UFC debut, “The Last Stylebender” has already been booked for his second Octagon appearance, as Adesanya will return at UFC on Fox 29 to take on Martin Vettori. The promotion officially confirmed the contest on Friday.
UFC on Fox 29 is scheduled for April 14 at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., headlined by a lightweight confrontation between contenders Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier.
Prior to this first UFC appearance, Adesanya, 28, racked up an 11-0 mixed martial arts record in addition to being an accomplished kickboxer and Glory veteran. The Nigerian-born, New Zealand-based striker made his Octagon debut at UFC 221 on Feb. 11, completely thrashing Rob Wilkinson before knocking him out with a knee and follow-up punches in the second round.
The 24-year-old Vettori came to prominence in Venator Fighting Championship in his native Italy before making the jump to the UFC. Thus far, Vettori has gone 2-1-1 under UFC employ, most recently fighting to a majority draw with Russia’s Omari Akhmedov at UFC 219 on Dec. 30 of last year.
