Ronald Gavril vs. Thomas Falowo

Round 1

Robert Byrd is the referee for this super middleweight matchup. Judges are Dick Houck, Glenn Trowbridge and Patricia Morse Jarmin. Falowo is fierce in the stare down; Gavril looks to the canvas. They trade jabs as they measure each other up moments in. Falowo is much more aggressive but most of his punches are blocked or parried. Gavril looks much bigger than his opponent but he’s very patient. Nice left jab by Falowo, who follows it up with a right. Gavril just misses with a short left hook on this inside. Gavril tags his foe with a straight right with a minute left and it shakes him. Falowo backing up and Gavril lands another right to the head, though it’s a glancing blow. Gavril goes downstairs with a thudding hook; Falowo took it well. Gavril has found a rhythm now and is starting to open up much more. Short right at the bell by Gavril. 10-9 Gavril.

Round 2

Falowo opens the round with a triple jab. Gavril cracks him with a left/right but it’s not entirely clean. Falowo is back to being the aggressor. Nice overhand right by the Rhode Island fighter, but Gavril walks right through it. Jab-jab-right hook to the body by Gavril forces Falowo to back away. Gavril is starting to walk down his opponent, who does not like the right hand whatsoever. Falowo is sticking and moving, but it’s ineffective. Gavril lands a decent right hand on the inside with ten seconds left. The round closes with neither man landing anything hard or clean. Much closer round than the first. 10-9 Gavril.

Round 3

Falowo is active, but he’s punching from a few inches too far, making his shots miss. Falowo seems a bit apprehensive to fully engage with the Romanian native. Hard right hand by Gavril drops Falowo onto the seat of his trunks a minute in. He’s up at seven and seems okay. Gavril applies a tad more pressure but waiting for the opening. Falowo on his bike, trying to jab and move. Hard left hook to the body by Gavril. Another. Falowo is on his bike even more, looking to survive. Falowo is visibly shaken by the body shots and survives the round. 10-8 Gavril.

Round 4

Falowo fires off three jabs but they land short; he still looks tentative. Gavril grazes “Soul Jah” with a left hook. Gavril is patiently stalking his prey and then digs another right to the ribs. Falowo is finally letting his hands go midway through the frame, but they are of little power. Gavril appears to be relying solely on the right hand power; he’s throwing one punch at a time, allowing Falowo back into the round. Nice four-punch combo by Falowo late. Falowo cracks him with a right hand and then adds a left. Very strong close to the round for Falowo. 10-9 Falowo.

Round 5

Falowo kicks off the round with a jab and two right hands to the head. Falowo is tossing plenty of leather Gavril’s way and landing most of them, though they have little power. Falowo now can’t miss that overhand right, though it’s doing little damage. Gavril opens up with a series of jabs and then unloads the right hand, but it misses. Hard left to the body by Gavril midway through and it halts Falowo’s progress. “Soul Jah” backs away and regroups. Falowo is back in the fold and throwing his punches again. Gavril looks a little puzzled and flustered, still relying almost solely on that right hand. Very close round; could’ve gone to either man. 10-9 Falowo.

Round 6

Gavril is jabbing well early in the sixth. Finally, Gavril is mixing up his shots and hurts Falowo with a short right hand. Falowo backs away to clear his head and then clinches when Gavril draws near. They separate and Falowo opens up with two rights, but he is crushed by a right to the body. Falowo grimaces and backs away as Gavril charges after him. Falowo looks recovered and fires off a series of jabs and overhand rights. Good scrap down the stretch. They tear into each other at the bell with Falowo getting the better of the two. 10-9 Gavril.

Round 7

Gavril starts off the round with some stiff jabs. Falowo returns the favor and then follows up with an overhand right. Falowo unfurls a series of right and left uppercuts. Gavril jabs his way in and staggers his opponent with a short right hand. Falowo looks okay as he backs into the ropes. Gavril, suddenly with a fire under him, pounces all over him. Falowo fires back but Gavril is unloading everything in his arsenal. Gavril goes to the body and then the head. Falowo is rocked but not rubbery. Gavril is ripping into him but Falowo is blocking most. A right hand finds its way inside and wobbles Falowo’s knees. Falowo stumbles to the middle of the ring, but Gavril forces him back along the ropes. Gavril unloads a series of right and lefts but Falowo is blocking most. Falowo fires off a left and right just as Byrd steps in and calls off the bout.

Badou Jack vs. Jason Escalera

Round 1

Referee is Jay Nady. Judges are: Robert Hoyle. Jerry Roth and Ricardo Ocasio. Jack is coming off his first professional loss, which came via first round knockout. Escalera fires off a jab to the body seconds into the round. Jack is moving away and circling around the ring, not engaging. Escalera is pressing the action while Jack is feeling him out. Jack looks very tentative of letting his hands go. He paws with the jab while Escalera bobs and weaves, trying to get in. Jack finally lets his right hand go but it’s blocked. Nice left jab by Jack with 30 seconds left. Jack is darting from side to side, foiling Escalera’s attacks. Hard right hand by Jack near the bell. 10-9 Jack.

Round 2

The Stockholm native fires a lead right hand to start the frame; Escalera took it well. Jack is moving very well in the ring; he’s moving much more than normal. Escalera fires three hard body shots, but Nady warns him of going too low. Jack is jabbing well, disallowing the Union City, NJ fighter to get into a groove. Hard left uppercut/straight right by Jack, though neither punch is clean. Escalera tags him with a right hand after throwing a double jab. Escalera pounds his chest, sticks out his tongue and dares Jack to fight. Escalera is cut somewhere around his eyes, but it’s hard to tell exactly where it’s coming from. Jack is moving in and out, side to side and jabbing him. 10-9 Jack.

Round 3

Jack sticks him with a double jab. Again. Hard right/left to the body from the Vegas-based Jack. Escalera comes in with his gloves wide and eats a perfect double jab in exchange. Jack looks very composed now and is setting down on his shots. Hard right hand by jack after a left jab that momentarily freezes Escalera. The Jersey boy is aggressive, but he is smothering his punches on the way in. Slick left jab/right hand to the face by Jack with 25 seconds left. Escalera closes the round with a hard right hand to the ribs. 10-9 Jack.

Round 4

Escalera jabs to the body. Right hand hurts Escalera and Jack closes in. He fires off another right and a left, but Escalera clinches. They separate and Escalera seems to have his head cleared. Jack settles down and returns to jabbing and moving. Jab/straight right by Jack is clean, but Escalera took it well. Midway through the stanza, Escalera misses a wild, loopy right hand. Leaping left hook by Escalera just barely misses its target. Escalera is opening up more but his punches are being blocked. Nice double jab by Jack. 10-9 Jack.

Round 5

Jack lands a hard left jab. A double jab. Another. Escalera is trying to get inside but he can’t get past the jabs. Thudding right hand by the local guy is hard, but Escalera take it well. Escalera comes through with a sweeping left hook but it grazes Jack’s whiskers. Escalera goes low and then returns with the left hook upstairs. Jack breaks through the guard and connects with a short left hook to the jaw. Escalera is coming on strong late in the round and digs a punishing left hook to the ribs. Very close round that could go to either man. 10-9 Jack.

Round 6

Nady warns Escalera for a low blow that lands on Jack’s left thigh. Escalera again is very aggressive and throwing a lot, but the majority of his shots fall short. Left hook by Escalera is very low and Nady warns him again for going downstairs. Escalera seems unfazed by Nady’s warnings and digs another borderline blow to the body. Jack returns with a jab. Another. Dedent right hand sneaks through the barriers of Escalera, though it’s not ferocious. Nice left hook to the head/left to the body by jack with 40 seconds left. Jab-hook-jab by Jack late in the round. 10-9 Jack.

Round 7

Escalera is aggressive early but he eats a right hand for his efforts. Hard left to the body from Escalera. Jack has resorted to being passive and reliant almost solely on the jab. Escalera is busy and throwing combos, but almost nothing lands. Jack, on the other hand, is throwing one punch at a time. Escalera is bleeding around his right eye again, but it’s not fight-threatening. Hard left jab by Jack again. The crowd is growing a bit restless at the lack of action. 10-9 Jack.

Round 8

Hard left to the body/left to the head by jack 30 seconds in. jack opens up moments later with both hands, but Escalera takes it well. Jack is beginning to land almost at will while Escalera resorts to covering up. Jack backs away and allows Escalera to fire off a multi-punch combo. Scorcher of a right hand by Jack, who follows it up with a loopy right to the temple. Escalera takes it well again and answers with a left to the body. Jab-jab-right by jack, who then lands a leaping left hook, though it’s mostly blocked. 10-9 Jack.

Round 9

Escalera needs to figure something out here as he’s likely being shutout up to this point. Jack is on his bike slightly and moving away from his foe. The Jersey fighter is pressing the issue, but he’s ineffective with his charges. Jack simply jabs and moves. Escalera swings for the fences with both the left and right, but each bomb misses by six inches. Jack doesn’t make him pay. Jack opens up with a seven punch flurry but they are mostly blocked. Hard right hand by Escalera late in the round, but it does zero damage. 10-9 Escalera.

Round 10

Escalera’s corner is imploring him to go for the knockout between rounds. Jack is in the pocket, not taking any risks. Escalera goes low and then to the head. Escalera is not aggressive enough and has squandered the first minute of the round. Jack is moving away, not engaging his challenger at all. Jack is looking to coast to the win, taking the first step past his shocking first-round KO loss in his last outing. Escalera should be going bananas in search of the knockout, but he appears content to just go the full ten. Jack lands a decent right to the jaw and then follows with a much harder, cleaner version of the same punch. Escalera took it well and retaliates with a right of his own. Jack closes the fight with a four-punch combo in the corner. 10-9 Jack (Mike Sloan's unofficial score: 99-91 Jack).

J’Leon Love vs. Rogelio Medina

Round 1

Ref is Tony Weeks. Judges are Adalaide Byrd, Dave Moretti and Lisa Giampa in this super middleweight main event. Forty seconds in and neither man has taken a step toward control. A few jabs here and there as each is sizing up the other. Medina is pressing forward but is gun shy at this point. Love is backing away and looking to set a trap, but nothing is materializing. Love jabs to the gloves. Medina fires a hard left hand to the body and then a right to the head, but neither punch finds its mark. Love ducks under four of Median’s punches but doesn’t make him pay. Median picks up the pace near the bell, but nothing lands. Completely even round for the most part, though Love’s jabs won it. 10-9 Love.

Round 2

Medina rushes right out to start the round but he meets Love, he doesn’t throw. Love backs away and sets up the jab. “porky” targets Love’s body and then goes upstairs, but misses. Hard left hook/right hand by Love as he backs into the ropes. Medina is starting to apply some serious pressure now, but his punches fall way short. Love is backing away quickly to avoid the skirmish. Median is stalking him down flat-footed. Right hand by Love is blocked. Love is on his bicycle much more than usual. Median misses every one of his five-punch combo. Median is not yet flustered by Love’s running. 10-9 Love.

Round 3

Love is waiting for him in the center of the ring but quickly backs away once Medina comes his way. Nice double jab by Love. Huge left hook drops Love onto his face. He is in bad shape. Love is stuck in the ropes. He can’t get to his feet. At Weeks’ count of nine, Love climbs up and then stumbles back onto his gloves. Weeks reaches ten, ending the fight. There is a dead silence in the venue. Replays show Love's left leg shaking violently before he tries getting up.
