Jack Shore Remains Unbeaten, Claims Bantamweight Crown at Cage Warriors 100
Cage Warriors Fighting Championship celebrated its 100th
numbered event at Ice Arena in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday, and
the European promotion can only hope for 100 more just like it, as
not a single bout on the professional portion of the card went to a
decision.
In the main event, undefeated stars Jack Shore and Mike Ekundayo went head-to-head for the Cage Warriors bantamweight title. Local hero Shore had the packed-out venue behind him and delivered another impressive performance, even though Ekundayo had promised to steal the victory.
The Welshman was nearly perfect with every ounce of offense for
much of the contest, taking his opponent to the ground with ease
and overwhelming him with shots and submission attempts. After
three dominant rounds from the 23-year-old, referee Marc Goddard
called a stop to the fight at 4:07 mark of the final stanza, giving
Shore a TKO triumph. As Cage Warriors bantamweight champion, Shore
can lay claim to being one of the best — if not the best — European
fighters at 135 pounds outside the UFC.
In the co-main event, Aiden Lee and Dean Trueman squared off in the featherweight tournament final to vie for the title vacated by Nad Narimani’s departure to the UFC. In a hard fought contest, Trueman displayed a huge level of resilience, resisting Lee’s repeated attempts to secure a rear-naked choke for nearly three rounds. The Hardy-Wallhead MMA representative weathered the storm, and in the third stanza, Trueman claimed the Cage Warriors featherweight crown after trapping his opponent with an omoplata against the cage before dropping a series of punches for a TKO stoppage 3:36 into the stanza.
In earlier action: Aaron Khalid scored the fifth submission victory of his career by choking out Hakon Foss with a brabo choke 2:18 into the second round of their welterweight tilt; former UFC welterweight Nicolas Dalby improved his momentum by smashing Ireland’s Philip Mulpeter via TKO 3:32 into the third round of their contest; and in the opening bout of the main card, Commonwealth judo champion Scott Malone improved to 5-0 after submitting former bantamweight title challenger Josh Reed via armbar at the 2:16 mark of the first stanza.
