Jason Knight Addresses Finger-Biting Incident vs. Gabriel Benitez at UFC Fight Night 123

Nothing went as planned for Jason Knight at UFC Fight Night 123.

Not only did the 25-year-old Mississippi native lose a clear-cut unanimous decision to underdog Gabriel Benitez in the evening’s co-main event in Fresno, Calif., but he looked like something of a dirty fighter in doing so. In the opening round, Knight was deducted a point for biting his opponent while attempting a takedown.

“He bit my thumb, my finger,” Benitez said in a post-fight media scrum. “I tried to grab the chin, and he bit two times. In the fight, this happens. … No [I don’t think he’s dirty], because in this sport everything happens. It was a mistake. It’s just a sport.”

While Knight doesn’t deny biting his opponent, he claims there was a little bit more going on than Benitez simply attempting to grab his chin during the incident.

“[Yeah] I accidentally bit the dude this weekend,” Knight wrote on Twitter. “[You] put your fingers in my mouth, I’ll bite them too. A fish hook is not a takedown defense.”

Knight has lost consecutive fights in the UFC after a previous four-bout winning streak had established him as one of the more intriguing featherweight prospects in the promotion. The Alan Belcher protege is 20-4 since beginning his professional career in September 2009.
