UFC Fight Night 123 is scheduled for Dec. 9 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., the promotion's first event in the Northern California city, headlined by a clash of top-10 featherweights Brian Ortega and Cub Swanson. UFC Fight Night 123's main card airs live on Fox Sports 1, while the preliminary undercard is to be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass.
The 23-year-old Lopez moved to 8-0 as a professional in August, earning a UFC contract in the process by taking a split decision over Steven Peterson at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders Series 7.
Morales, 26, has alternated wins and losses since joining the promotion, topping Alejandro Perez 13 months ago, before suffering a knockout loss to Brazilian hitter Thomas Almeida last November. In 2017, “The Warrior” took a split decision over Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 209 in March before dropping a unanimous verdict to undefeated Welshman Brett Johns in July.
Knight, officially nicknamed “Mississippi Mean” by more affectionately known as “Hick Diaz,” lost his December 2015 Octagon debut to Japanese veteran Tatsuya Kawajiri, but rebounded with four straight impressive victories. The 25-year-old had his hot streak ended at UFC 214 in July when he was punched out in the second round by former UFC title challenger Ricardo Lamas.
Benitez has gone 3-2 in the UFC since his stint on the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” taking wins over Humberto Brown and Clay Collard before getting head kicked by Andre Fili in November 2015. He choked Sam Sicilia out cold 13 months ago before dropping a decision to Enrique Barzola at UFC 211 this past May.
