Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha will coach against each other on Season 23 of “The Ultimate Fighter” before meeting in a strawweight title rematch on July 8.
The news was announced during the UFC Fight Night Boston broadcast on Sunday. The Jedrzejczyk-Gadelha rematch will headline the ‘TUF 23’ finale and will be part of a weekend that includes UFC 200 the next day on July 9.
“I’m very happy about it,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I‘m gong to bring something new, something special and something different to the house.”
“TUF 23” will premiere on Fox Sports 1 on April 20 and will feature both strawweights and light heavyweights in the reality show’s first co-ed season since “TUF 18.” The series will begin with 32 fighters vying for 16 spots in the house — eight in each weight class. The reality show winners will be determined at the finale on July 8.
Jedrzejczyk and Gadelha first squared off at UFC on Fox 13 in December 2014, with the Polish strawweight emerging with a hard-fought split-decision triumph. Jedrzejczyk went on to capture 115-pound gold with a second-round finish of Carla Esparza at UFC 185 and has since defended the belt twice with victories over Jessica Penne and Valerie Letourneau.
Gadelha, meanwhile, returned to the win column at UFC 190, as she outpointed former World Series of Fighting titlist Jessica Aguilar this past August. The Brazilian was expected to receive the title shot sooner but had to recover from an injured finger.
“In the last fight, there were so many emotions,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I promise to you guys that I am going to prove that I am the best, and I will win the second fight with Gadelha.”
