Joanna Jedrzejczyk continued the impressive introduction of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s new women’s strawweight division with a three-round thrashing of Juliana de Lima Carneiro at UFC on Fox 12.
With the victory in her UFC debut, Jedrzejczyk remains unbeaten in her pro career at 7-0.
The Polish fighter explained that Lima’s action’s at the weigh-ins on Friday pushed her to harm her opponent. She was not fazed by Lima missing the required mark of 115 pounds.
“Before, I was only fighting at 125 pounds and never had any desire to move down to 115 pounds. When the UFC called to offer me this opportunity, I knew I had to do it. The weight cut was much easier than I thought it would be, and I have really good people around me that helped,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I didn’t care that Lima didn’t make weight; I would fight her no matter what. She wasn’t nice at weigh-ins to me, and what’s funny is tonight she gets hit pretty hard in return.”
The future for Jedrzejczyk seems to be bright. With “The Ultimate Fighter 20” -- which revolves around strawweights -- currently being filmed, the 26 year old becomes an instant player in the title picture. A pairing with Claudia Gadelha could be an option as well.
