Joe Lauzon has replaced the injured Norman Parke and will face Diego Sanchez in a lightweight bout at UFC 180.
UFC President Dana White revealed the new matchup via Instagram on Friday. Parke was forced to withdraw from the fight after suffering an MCL injury. UFC 180 takes place at the Mexico City Arena in Mexico City and is headlined by a heavyweight title tilt between Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum.
The 30-year-old Lauzon has won his last two fights in the Octagon, outpointing Mac Danzig at UFC on Fox 9 before earning a doctor stoppage triumph against Michael Chiesa on Sept. 5. The Bridgewater, Mass., native also owns notable victories over Jens Pulver, Jeremy Stephens, Melvin Guillard and Jamie Varner during his promotional tenure.
Sanchez, meanwhile, is coming off a controversial split-decision win over Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. Khabilov” in June. The Jackson-Wink MMA stalwart is 14-7 in the Octagon since debuting with a win over Kenny Florian at “The Ultimate Fighter 1” finale in 2005.
