Former bantamweight title challenger Joe Soto will lock horns with Anthony Birchak at UFC Fight Night in New Orleans on June 6.
Promotion officials recently announced the bout. The event takes place at the Smoothie King Center and is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader.
Soto and Birchak were originally supposed to meet at UFC 177 last August before Renan Barao pulled out of his headlining bout with T.J. Dillashaw at the last minute due to weight cutting issues. Soto was tabbed as Barao’s unlikely replacement, and he succumbed to a head kick and follow-up punches from Dillashaw 2:20 into the fifth frame. That loss ended a six-fight winning streak for the 27-year-old Central Valley Combat Academy Product.
Birchak’s Octagon debut was pushed back to UFC on Fox 13, where he tapped to an Ian Entwistle heel hook in 64 seconds. The 28-year-old Arizonan had won five straight bouts prior to that defeat.
