A bantamweight bout with title implications will headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Oct. 1 trip to Portland.
Promotion officials announced Saturday that John Lineker will meet John Dodson in the UFC Fight Night 96 main event at the Moda Center. The Fox Sports 1-televised card will also include Will Brooks’ sophomore Octagon appearance, as he takes on Brazilian Alex Oliveira in a lightweight tilt.
Lineker enters the matchup on a five-fight winning streak, including three impressive triumphs since moving from flyweight to 135 pounds. Most recently, the Brazilian known as “Hands of Stone” knocked out former No. 1 contender Michael McDonald in the first round at UFC Fight Night in Sioux Falls, S.D., on July 13.
A two-time title challenger at 125 pounds, Dodson returned to bantamweight for the first time since “The Ultimate Fighter 14” in April, when he stopped Manny Gamburyan in 47 seconds at UFC on Fox 19. The Jackson-Wink MMA product ‘s only two losses in nine Octagon appearances have come at the hands of reigning flyweight king Demetrious Johnson.
