Former UFC flyweight title contender John Moraga has suffered an injury that will prevent him from competing at UFC on Fox 9.
UFC officials announced the news on Tuesday, revealing that Octagon newcomer Alptekin Ozkilic will step in on short notice to face Darren Uyenoyama at the Dec. 14 event. UFC on Fox 9 takes place at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and is headlined by a flyweight title rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez.
Ozkilic, 27, enters the Octagon riding a three-fight winning streak. “Alp” has tasted defeat just once in nine pro outings, suffering a unanimous decision loss to current UFC talent Chico Camus last year. Ozkilic last competed in May, when he knocked out onetime WEC title contender Antonio Banuelos in just 30 seconds.
Uyenoyama, meanwhile, looks to rebound from his second-round knockout loss to Benavidez this past April. Prior to that setback, “BC” kicked off his Octagon career with back-to-back victories, outpointing Norifumi Yamamoto in 2011 before submitting Phil Harris last year at UFC on FX 5.
