After his recent struggles making the cut to 170 pounds, Johny Hendricks will move to middleweight for a bout with Hector Lombard at UFC Fight Night 105.
Multiple outlets confirmed the pairing on Wednesday following an initial report from Brazilian website Combate.com. UFC Fight Night 105 takes place at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Feb. 19 and was initially expected to be headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Junior dos Santos and Stefan Struve. However, Struve withdrew from the contest due to injury, and Combate is reporting that dos Santos will not remain on the card.
The Las Vegas-based promotion has not formally announced the Hendricks-Lombard matchup or the removal of the originally scheduled main event. Hendricks vs. Lombard is unlikely to serve as the card’s new headliner.
Hendricks last appeared at UFC 207, where he dropped a unanimous verdict to Neil Magny after tipping the scales at 173.5 pounds at weigh-ins. That marked the third consecutive defeat for the former welterweight champion, who captured the vacant 170-pound strap with a victory over Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 before relinquishing the crown to “Ruthless” in his next outing at UFC 181.
Lombard, meanwhile, is winless in his last three Octagon appearances. Most recently, the ex-Bellator MMA champ suffered a surprising second-round knockout loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 199 on June 4. “Lightning” was stopped by Magny in the second round at UFC Fight Night 85 in his only other appearance of 2016.
