Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion World Series of Fighting will return to Connecticut for the second time in 2015 when the company will host WSOF 24 inside the Foxwoods Resort Casino. Fitch, a one-time challenger to the UFC’s welterweight crown, is looking to bounce back into the win column against Okami. Fitch last competed in December, where he was submitted via kneebar to reigning WSOF 170-pound champion Rousimar Palhares. Fitch also alledgedly failed a drug test ahead of the defeat.
Okami is also coming off a loss; he was knocked out in the fourth
round by David
Branch last November. The Japanese veteran had won three of his
previous four bouts, including a win over highly-rated Hector
Lombard.
Ivanov is set to defend his title for the first time when he fights Mehmen. The Bulgarian has lost only once in his career and out of his 14 pro wins, all but two have come from some form of stoppage. Mehmen is looking to make his second run in WSOF a memorable one as the Floridian powerhouse is coming off a decision win over long-time veteran Brett Rogers in March. He’s won eight of nine overall.
Multiple-time grappling and jiu-jitsu world champion Magalhaes has won two straight bouts since being released from the UFC two years ago. By the time he steps foot into the WSOF cage, it will have been 13 months since “Pezao” last competed in MMA. But Magalhaes has remained busy with plenty of action in grappling tournaments across the globe.
After losing three of his lat four bouts, Hamill was released from his UFC contract and took two years off from MMA. He makes his awaited return to action against the Las Vegas-based Brazilian.
WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami will be televised live on NBCSN starting at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
