Jon Jones has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 178 main event bout against Daniel Cormier due to a leg injury sustained during training earlier this week.

The UFC announced the news during a segment on Fox Sports 1 on Tuesday. The light heavyweight title fight between Cormier and Jones will now be held on Jan. 3 in Las Vegas at UFC 182. The fight was scheduled to take place Sept. 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 178’s new headliner will be a flyweight title clash between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, a matchup that was initially scheduled for the UFC 177 co-main event on Aug. 30. The Sept. 27 card also includes a featherweight clash between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier as well as a bantamweight pairing pitting the returning Dominick Cruz against Takeya Mizugaki.

The news comes after a whirlwind week of hype for the bout. In addition to a brawl between the two that took place during a press conference at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Jones and Cormier were recorded exchanging threats and profanities during off-air segment following a recent ESPN interview.
