UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his belt in March against Glover Teixeira at UFC 171.
UFC officials Wednesday announced the booking, which was previously scheduled to take place on Feb. 1 and then Feb. 22. However, those fight dates were abandoned to allow Jones to heal lingering injuries.
The March 15 event takes place at American Airlines Center in Dallas and airs live on pay-per-view. No additional bouts have been announced for the card.
Jones, 26, owns a 10-fight winning streak that includes successful title defenses over Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort. “Bones” last competed in September, scoring a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Alexander Gustafsson in a likely “Fight of the Year” nominee at UFC 165.
Teixeira, 34, has not lost since 2005 and has earned five consecutive Octagon victories heading into his title shot. The hard-hitting Brazilian native most recently dispatched Ryan Bader two months ago at UFC Fight Night 28, scoring a first-round knockout over “Darth” to extend his current winning streak to 20 fights.
