UFC on Fox 12 wound up being a very good evening for both Jorge Masvidal and Bobby Green. The two lightweights walked away with different versions of decision victories and have now been booked to fight each other.
Masvidal and Green are scheduled to meet at UFC 178, which takes place on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas. Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the tilt on Tuesday.
The pay-per-view event has mixed martial arts fans and pundits in a tizzy with its strong lineup, featuring the likes of Jon Jones versus Daniel Cormier, Dustin Poirier versus Conor McGregor, and the return of Dominick Cruz against Takeya Mizugaki.
For Green, who is coming off a split-decision victory over Josh Thomson, the matchup will serve as an opportunity to win his ninth contest in a row. The 27-year-old has been on a tear since transferring to the UFC from Strikeforce, emerging victorious in all four of his fights. The win over Thomson served “King” well, moving him to No. 8 on Sherdog.com’s 155-pound rankings.
Masvidal bounced back from near defeat against Daron Cruickshank on Saturday to grab a unanimous nod from the judges. “Gamebred” immediately asked for a fight with Donald Cerrone following his win, but instead has been booked against his former Strikeforce counterpart. Of the Miami, Fla., native’s 27 wins, 10 have come by way of knockout, while another 15 have come by decision.
