World-ranked bantamweight Scott Jorgensen will collide with Chad George at WEC 47 “Bowles vs. Cruz” on March 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. World Extreme Cagefighting officials on Monday announced the matchup.
On the cusp of title contention at 135 pounds, the 27-year-old Jorgensen has won back-to-back fights, including a unanimous decision victory over Cage Force tournament champion Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 45 last month. A former Ring of Fire titleholder, he has never been knocked out in 11 career bouts. Jorgensen wrestled collegiately at Boise State University, where he won three Pac-10 conference championships.
George, meanwhile, will carry a six-fight winning streak into the match. The 27-year-old Californian made his promotional debut at WEC 45 in December, when he outpointed John Hosman in a unanimous decision. A former Total Fighting Alliance titleholder, he has trained alongside Japanese legend Rumina Sato, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 winner Mac Danzig and top UFC welterweight contender Dan Hardy, among others. Three of his four career defeats have come by submission.
A bantamweight title fight pairing champion Brian Bowles with the once-beaten Dominick Cruz will headline WEC 47, along with a key 135-pound tilt pitting former titleholder Miguel Torres against Urijah Faber protégé Joseph Benavidez. The show will also mark the return of one-time UFC lightweight king Jens Pulver, as he collides with Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Javier Vazquez.
