Jose Aldo Suffers Minor Injuries in Motorcycle Accident, Still Expected to Headline UFC 153

The UFC 153 main event dodged a bullet this past weekend when featherweight champion Jose Aldo emerged from a motorcycle accident without any serious injuries.

According to Brazilian media outlet Tatame.com, Aldo’s motorcycle was struck by a car in the Copacabana area of Rio de Janeiro on Saturday as the fighter was on his way home. The 25-year-old fighter reportedly suffered minor scratches and a swollen foot but will still be able to defend his 145-pound title against Frankie Edgar on Oct. 13 at Rio’s HSBC Arena.

Nova Uniao coach Andre Pederneiras told Tatame that he has forbidden Aldo to ride his motorcycle in the future.

Following an eight-fight unbeaten run in World Extreme Cagefighting, Aldo made his Octagon debut at UFC 129, earning a five-round verdict over Mark Hominick. He followed that performance with another decision win against Kenny Florian at UFC 136 before knocking out Chad Mendes with a knee in the opening round of their January encounter. “Scarface” has lost just once in 22 professional appearances, with 15 of his victories coming via knockout or submission.
