The featherweight title clash between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor has an official date and venue.
The bout was initially expected to take place at UFC 187 on Memorial Day weekend, but it appears that a light heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson could headline the May 23 card instead.
Aldo has won 18 straight fights, including seven inside the Octagon. The former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight king last appeared at UFC 179, where he earned a five-round verdict over Chad Mendes. In addition to two wins over Mendes, the Nova Uniao standout has also bested Ricardo Lamas, Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung, Mark Hominick and Kenny Florian during his UFC tenure.
A former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titlist, McGregor has taken the UFC’s featherweight division by storm, winning five consecutive fights -- four inside the distance -- since joining the Las Vegas-based promotion in 2013. “Notorious” earned his title shot with a second-round technical knockout triumph over Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night in Boston on Jan. 18.
