Jungle Fight 20 to Air Live Saturday on ESPN Deportes
Thursday, May 20, 2010
Jungle Fight 20, scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Pacaembu Gymnasiun in São Paulo, Brazil, will air live on ESPN Deportes in the U.S., beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST/6:00 p.m. PST.

According to promoter Wallid Ismail, the airing will mark the first time a Latin American-based event has ever aired live in the U.S.

"I chose the biggest MMA website in the world to release this historic news for Latin American MMA,” Ismail told Sherdog.com. “Jungle Fight will be the first Latin American show to be broadcasted live in the U.S.A.”

The next series of Jungle Fight events will host five eight-man tournaments in the 70kg, 77kg, 84kg, 93kg and heavyweight divisions, said Ismail.

“All the eight-man tournaments will have four foreigners on one side of the bracket and four Brazilians on the other side, so the final will always be an international fight,” said the UFC 12 veteran.

The first event of the "new era" of Jungle Fight will promote two fights in the 70kg tournament and two fights in 77kg tournament, plus three superfights.

The most anticipated fight will be between UFC veteran and Team Minotauro’s Edilberto “Crocotá” de Oliveira and Gil Freitas, of the Barbosa Team, the latest training revelation in São Paulo.

"Without having champions and belts, Jungle Fight is the Brazilian event that exported more fighters to the UFC and Japan,” said Ismail. “Lyoto Machida, José Aldo, Paulo Thiago, Todd Duffee, Fabrício Werdum, and Gabriel Gonzaga were all found here. I hope that we can keep being the show that exports the most talent to the No. 1 event in the world, the UFC, the event that transformed a challenge between styles into a sport that gives allows so many families (of discipline) to survive from.”
