Kevin Holland Meets Jack Della Maddalena at Sept. 16 Noche UFC Card

On about a month’s notice, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has found a replacement co-headlining match for its Noche UFC event.

Per the organization on social media on Friday, Kevin Holland (25-9, 1 NC) will take on Jack Della Maddalena (15-2) in a potentially thrilling welterweight clash on Sept. 16. The two ranked 170-pounders will duke it out inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of UFC Fight Night 227, which has also been titled “Noche UFC” to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. This fight replaces a welterweight tilt between Kelvin Gastelum and Shavkat Rakhmonov that fell through due to a compound fracture to Gastelum’s nose suffered during training.

Fan-favorite Holland put himself on a win streak when he tapped out Michael Chiesa with a brabo choke in late July. That victory followed the one-punch knockout he celebrated against Santiago Ponzinibbio back in April. Before then, “Trailblazer” had sustained a pair of stoppage losses to Stephen Thompson and Khamzat Chimaev, with the latter coming after Chimaev missed weight by nine pounds and wound up facing Holland after the UFC reshuffled the card. As a pro, the Texan posts a stoppage rate of 84%, with each of his last six victories coming inside the distance.

Like Holland, Maddalena also fought as recently as July, where he battled late replacement Bassil Hafez to a hard-fought split decision. That victory put the Aussie on a 15-fight win streak, which includes five appearances in the Octagon to date. Before fighting Hafez, Maddalena had only heard the final bell one time, in his UFC contract-earning triumph over Ange Loosa in the 2021 season of Dana White's Contender Series. Not to be outdone by Holland, Maddalena has earned 87% of his pro wins by finish.

Noche UFC, also known as UFC Fight Night 227, will take place inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sept. 16. The non-pay-per-view event that will air on ESPN+ will feature a women’s flyweight championship collision in the main attraction when Alexa Grasso puts her belt on the line in a rematch with Valentina Shevchenko. Other main card matchups likely will include a middleweight contest pitting Anthony Hernandez against Roman Kopylov, a flyweight scrap when Tracy Cortez faces Jasmine Jasudavicius and the potential appearance of Santiago Ponzinibbio if he receives a new foe.
