Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Father Promises to Impose Punishment ‘Tougher Than the UFC’s’

Even if Khabib Nurmagomedov gets no more than a slap on the wrist from the UFC and the Nevada Athletic Commission for his post-fight actions on Saturday, he won’t receive the same treatment at home.

Speaking to Russian media (translation via Bloody Elbow), Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov said that his son crossed a line by exiting the Octagon following the UFC 229 main event.

“I will impose a punishment tougher than the UFC’s. I warned him,” he said. “For me, discipline comes first. You do whatever you want in the Octagon, [but] outside — this is the border of civilians, where there are children, women, strangers.”

Khabib predicted as much during the UFC 229 post-fight press conference on Saturday night.

“I know my father is gonna smash me when I go home,” Khabib said.

Not only is Abdulmanap the father of the UFC lightweight champion, but he is also his longtime coach. Abdulmanap, a celebrated coach throughout Dagestan, was targeted by McGregor leading up to the bout, as the Irishman called him a "quivering coward” in a social media post.

Abdulmanap is uncertain when Khabib will return home. The Nevada Athletic Commission is currently withholding the lightweight champion’s $2 million purse as a result of him leaving the Octagon to fight McGregor’s cornermen.

”Financial issues have not been resolved,” Abdulmanap told tass.ru. “He does not know what is going on. He was supposed to fly out of America on the 9th. I do not know what date, at what time [he will return from the United States to Dagestan now].”
