‘Korean Zombie’ Knee Injury Derails Anticipated UFC 214 Clash vs. Ricardo Lamas

One of the most eagerly anticipated showdowns of the summer has been scrapped, as Chan Sung Jung has been removed from his UFC 214 pairing with Ricardo Lamas due to a knee injury.

MMA analyst Robin Black was the first to report “The Korean Zombie” had withdrawn, and a subsequent report from MMAFighting.com confirmed the fan favorite’s injury. Jung and Lamas were scheduled to collide in one of the featured bouts on Aug. 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Whether or not Lamas remains on the card remains unclear.

Jung has been plagued by injuries in recent years and recently returned from a mandatory two-year stint in the South Korean military. He was originally slated to face Lamas at UFC 162, but Ultimate Fighting Championship officials paired him with Jose Aldo in a featherweight title bout at UFC 163 instead. Jung last competed on Feb. 4, when he knocked out Dennis Bermudez in the UFC Fight Night 104 main event.
