LFA Returns to South Dakota With David Michaud-Ciro Rodrigues Headliner on Aug. 18 Card

Legacy Fighting Alliance is headed back to the Mount Rushmore State.

Monday, the promotion announced that LFA 19 will take place on Aug. 18 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The event's main card card is scheduled to air 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. ET on AXS TV.

In the LFA 19 headliner, Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran and native South Dakotan David Michaud will take on Brazil's “Bad Boy” Ciro Rodrigues in a 170-pound contest.

“LFA 19 will add to an exciting MMA history in South Dakota that began three summers ago with the RFA,” said LFA CEO Ed Soares in a press release. “We brought the first sanctioned MMA event to the state at RFA 17, we hosted the first MMA world title fight in the state, and ten of the fighters that competed for us in South Dakota have gone on to fight in the UFC.”

It is an unusual “return” of sorts to South Dakota for LFA. As Soares noted, Resurrection Fighting Alliance 17 in August 2014 was the first sanctioned card in the state and the first of four RFA cards to take place in Sioux Falls. However, the new-look LFA has actually hit the Sanford Pentagon previously: LFA promoted its lone, non-numbered event to date on April 29, staging “Sioux Falls Fight Night 1” at the same venue.

The 28-year-old Michaud went 1-2 in his UFC tenure, dropping a submission loss to Olivier Aubin-Mercier before his eventual 2015 release. Since then, he's gone 3-1, most recently knocking out fellow UFC vet Jake Lindsey on the aforementioned LFA “Sioux Falls Fight Night” card.

Rodrigues, also 28, is 7-1 in his last eight bouts. His last victory came in May 2016 in the form of a decision win over “Crocota” Edilberto de Oliveira

The LFA 19 main bill will also feature an additional welterweight contest between Marcus Edwards and Clarence Jordan.
