Landmark WEC 48 Lineup Complete

Mackens Semerzier will answer the World Extreme Cagefighting bell against Anthony Morrison in a preliminary featherweight matchup at WEC 48 “Aldo vs. Faber” on April 24 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The WEC this week finalized an 11-bout lineup for the event, which marks its debut on pay-per-view.

The once-beaten Semerzier authored the biggest upset of 2009, when he submitted Nova Uniao standout and former International Fight League champion Wagnney Fabiano with a first-round triangle choke at WEC 43 in October. However, he finds himself on the rebound for the first time in his career, having lost a unanimous decision to rugged Lithuanian Deividas Taurosevicius three months ago. Semerzier, 29, has delivered all five of his victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, four of them inside the first round.

Morrison, a former Ring of Combat champion, succumbed to a rear-naked choke from one-time featherweight king Mike Thomas Brown in his promotional debut at WEC 46. The defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak for the well-traveled Virginia-based 26-year-old. Victories over UFC veteran Alvin Robinson and Kurt Pellegrino protégé Jeff Lentz anchor his resume.

A showdown between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and former titleholder Urijah Faber will headline WEC 48. In addition, WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will defend his crown for the first time against Donald Cerrone in a rematch of their 2009 “Fight of the Year.” Finally, American Top Team’s Brown will take on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 runner-up Manny Gamburyan in a key matchup at 145 pounds.
