Lashley-Sanchez to Carry TFC 19 Marquee on July 28
Mike Whitman Jul 9, 2011
Hulking heavyweight Bobby
Lashley will return to the cage on July 28, as he squares off
with UFC veteran Eddie
Sanchez in the main event of
Titan Fighting Championship 19. Airing live on HDNet, the event
will emanate from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. HDNet
officials on Saturday announced the pairing.
Formerly a star in World Wrestling Entertainment, Lashley (Pictured; file photo) made a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling before trying his hand at MMA. Using his freakish physique and amateur wrestling background, Lashley fought his way to a 4-0 record before running into the resilient Chad Griggs in August 2010. After unleashing his usual storm early in the contest, Lashley tired as the bout wore on, opening a window for Griggs to capitalize. Griggs did just that, and the fight was stopped by the doctor after the second round. Most recently, Lashley battered an undersized John Ott at TFC 17, earning a unanimous decision at the March 25 event.
A six-time UFC veteran, Sanchez was bounced from the world’s biggest promotion in 2008 after suffering consecutive defeats. The 28-year-old responded by winning four straight bouts, two of which came inside the rounded cage of Bellator Fighting Championships. However, Sanchez has dropped back-to-back contests heading into his showdown with Lashley, falling by technical to Neil Grove in August before dropping a split decision to Mike Whitehead in December.
