Lightweights Joe Lauzon and Curt Warburton are set to meet on June 26 as part of UFC Live 4, according to a Monday posting on Lauzon’s official blog.
“I got a call on Saturday from UFC Matchmaker Joe Silva,” Lauzon wrote. “Told him I was healthy and training hard and looking to fight. He was happy and said he had someone for me. I am fighting Curt Warburton.”
UFC Live 4, alternately billed as “UFC on Versus 4,” will take place at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The only bout officially added to the card thus far is a welterweight matchup between Matt Brown and Rich Attonito, though several other fights -- including Joe Stevenson and Tyson Griffin’s respective UFC 145-pound debuts against Javier Vazquez and Manny Gamburyan -- have also been strongly rumored.
Lauzon, 26, comes off his toughest year in the Octagon yet. After undergoing ACL surgery in March 2009, the Massachusetts native returned to the cage last January and suffered a unanimous decision loss to Sam Stout. Lauzon would rebound with a two-minute armbarring of Gabe Ruediger in August, but finished his year with a November submission loss to George Sotiropoulos.
A product of England’s Wolfslair Academy, Warburton owns a 1-1 mark inside the Octagon. Decisioned by veteran Spencer Fisher in his October UFC debut, Warburton handed Polish prospect Maciej Jewtuszko his first loss at UFC 127 in February. The 30-year-old Brit’s 7-2 professional ledger also includes a 2007 win over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 winner Ross Pearson.
