Lawler, Bobby
Lashley and K.J.
Noons will all fight at Strikeforce’s June 16 event at the
8,000-seat Nokia Theatre in the L.A. Live complex, the promotion
announced on Wednesday.
Opponents for the trio of Strikeforce standouts were not announced, while L.A. Live is located next to the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event will also air live on Showtime.
Lawler, a former EliteXC middleweight champion, was expected to face Jason “Mayhem” Miller, fresh off his first-round victory against Tim Stout on April 17 in Nashville, Tenn. However, Miller’s participation in a post-fight brawl in the cage following the main event and pending sanctioning from Tennessee’s athletic commission could sideline the extroverted fighter from a June 16 bout.
Heavyweight Lashley, a former WWE champion and four-time All-American wrestler, earned a first-round technical knockout against Wes Sims at Strikeforce “Miami” on Jan. 30 in Miami, Fla. Lashley is 5-0 in MMA.
Noons, also a pro boxer, banked a decisive two-round victory over Andre “Dida” Amade at Dream 13 on March 22 in Yokohama, Japan. The former EliteXC lightweight champion holds a victory over Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz.
