A middleweight bout featuring
Robbie Lawler has been scratched for Saturday’s Strikeforce “Evolution” event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., Sherdog.com confirmed with the promotion on Wednesday.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told Sherdog.com via text that the promotion was unable to secure a quality opponent for the Iowan power puncher in time. Among the candidates considered for the former EliteXC middleweight champion was
Kala Hose, who had twice been scheduled to face Lawler for Icon Sport back in 2008 before both bouts were called off. Coker said Hose had the flu and could not accept the bout.
Lawler, 27, was scheduled to face South African Olympic wrestling alternate
Trevor Prangley, who withdrew earlier this week with an undisclosed injury. Prangley had replaced
Benji Radach, who couldn’t obtain medical clearance to resume training for the bout after breaking his right hand last April.
Monte Cox, Lawler’s manager, said he was unsure if the fighter would be moved to Strikeforce’s Jan. 30 card at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
