Levan Makashvili will make his Octagon debut on short notice when he squares off with Nik Lentz at UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. Thatch” on Feb. 14.
Makashvili replaces Thiago Tavares, who was injured and had to withdraw from the featherweight contest. Promotion officials announced the change on Tuesday. The UFC Fight Night card takes place at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., and is headlined by a welterweight showdown between Benson Henderson and Brandon Thatch.
Known as “The Hornet,” the 26-year-old Makashvili has compiled a 6-1 professional record while competing primarily for the Cage Fury Fighting Championship and Ring of Combat promotions. He went 3-1 last year and avenged his lone career setback by defeating Alexandre Bezerra at CFFC 44 in his most recent outing on Dec. 13.
Lentz is 4-1 since dropping to featherweight, with his lone loss coming against Chad Mendes at UFC on Fox 9. “The Carny” last appeared at UFC Fight Night “Brown vs. Silva,” where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Manny Gamburyan.
