Lightweights Cerrone, Danzig Booked for UFC 131 Showdown

The UFC will give Donald
Cerrone and Mac Danzig a
chance to settle their recent war of words in the Octagon on June
11.
The promotion today announced that the 155-pound standouts have agreed to square off at UFC 131 “Lesnar vs. Dos Santos,” which will emanate from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The pair’s squabble began in January, when Danzig slung an
invective in Cerrone’s direction via Twitter.
“So all you have to do to secure a fight you haven’t earned is wear a silly hat, call yourself ‘cowboy’ and talk trash? Seems strange,” Danzig (Pictured) wrote on Jan. 14, apparently taking issue with Cerrone’s short-notice booking against Paul Kelly at UFC 126.
“I feel like he’s kinda doing the same thing I’m doing. That’s the pot calling the kettle black, man,” Cerrone told the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” program later that month. “Get in line, man. We can do it... I’ll wear my funny little hat to the cage and we’ll see what’s up.”
Cerrone began his UFC career in style on Feb. 5, submitting Kelly with a second-round rear-naked choke in UFC 126’s “Fight of the Night.” It was the sixth such honor for the 27-year-old Coloradoan inside a Zuffa cage. Cerrone’s current win streak sits at three, having finished his WEC career with wins over Chris Horodecki and rival Jamie Varner.
Danzig, 31, enters on the heels of his own bonus-winning performance, a “Knockout of the Night” against Joe Stevenson at UFC 124 in December. The winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 6” rebounded from a three-fight skid in 2010, going 2-1, with his lone defeat coming in a controversial technical submission against Matt Wiman at June’s UFC 115.
