A lightweight scrap between Joe Lauzon and Al Iaquinta will take place at UFC 183.
The promotion announced the pairing on Wednesday. UFC 183 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 31 and is headlined by a middleweight tilt between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view and also includes a welterweight matchup pitting Kelvin Gastelum against Tyron Woodley.
Lauzon enters the bout on a two-fight winning streak, as he outpointed Mac Danzig at UFC on Fox 9 before scoring a second-round stoppage against Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2” on Sept. 5. The Bridgewater, Mass., native agreed to replace Norman Parke against Diego Sanchez at UFC 180 but had to withdraw from the contest due to injury.
A product of the Serra-Longo Fight Team, Iaquinta has won five of six since falling to Chiesa at “The Ultimate Fighter 15” finale. He went 3-1 overall in 2014, most recently earning a second-round technical knockout victory over Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night “Rockhold vs. Bisping” on Nov. 7.
