A potentially action-packed lightweight clash between Joe Lauzon and Takanori Gomi is set for UFC on Fox 16.
The matchup was revealed Thursday during “America’s Pregame” on Fox Sports 1. UFC on Fox 16 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on July 25 and is headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao.
Lauzon had a two-fight winning streak snapped in his first appearance of 2015, as he suffered a third-round technical knockout loss to Al Iaquinta at UFC 183 on Jan. 31. Prior to that defeat, the Bridgewater, Mass., native had earned back-to-back triumphs over Mac Danzig and Michael Chiesa.
A former Pride Fighting Championships standout, Gomi enters the matchup having lost two of his last three fights. In his most recent outing, “The Fireball Kid” fell to Myles Jury via first-round technical knockout at UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs. Nelson.”
