Two fighters searching for stability in the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight division will meet in March when Ross Pearson clashes with Abel Trujillo.
UFC officials on Monday announced the scheduled three-round matchup, which will be part of UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs. Mir.” The Fox Sports 1-televised event takes place March 20 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia.
Pearson has struggled with consistency in the 18 months since his infamous decision loss to Diego Sanchez, posting a .500 record in his last six bouts. The 31-year-old Englishman’s 2016 campaign got off to a rough start on Jan. 17, when “The Real Deal” suffered a three-round decision defeat against Francisco Trinaldo. Pearson’s upcoming bout will be his fourth Octagon appearance in the last six months.
Trujillo is 1-0 on the year after a Jan. 2 guillotine choke victory over Tony Sims at UFC 195 snapped a two-fight losing skid. (One of those losses came against Gleison Tibau, who has since been provionally suspended by USADA.) “Killa” holds a UFC record of 4-3 with one no-contest and has recorded finishes in all four of his wins.
