Lindland Signs 3-Fight Deal with Strikeforce

Matt “The Law” Lindland has inked a new three-fight deal with Strikeforce, Sherdog.com learned on Thursday evening. His one-year deal will commence with his first bout, slated for October against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.

“I am happy to be back in the game after getting caught in no man’s land with this Affliction deal,” said Lindland of his signing, which was first reported by MMAWeekly.com. “I am happy to be fighting for Strikeforce.”

Lindland (21-6) will be returning after a brutal knockout loss to Vitor Belfort in January of this year.

“The Law” also informed Sherdog.com that he would be part of EA Sports’ mixed martial arts title that is due out in 2010. He stated that he made sure to exhaust all avenues with the UFC before agreeing to join the EA game, heeding MMA’s top promoter’s warning about signing onto their rival’s video game. The UFC's video game, "Undisputed 2009," is produced and distributed by THQ.

The former Olympic silver medalist expects to square off with either Jake Shields or Robbie Lawler in October.

“Both of those fights make sense,” declared Lindland. “I think those are big fights.”
