Lopez-Camoes Slated for Tachi Palace Fights 8

Fabricio Camoes | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

A lightweight scrap between two UFC veterans has been greenlit for Tachi Palace Fights 8, as Steve Lopez will step in for an ill C.J. Keith to take on Fabricio Camoes.

Sherdog.com learned of the matchup on Thursday afternoon from a source close to the event. Specifics regarding Keith's illness are unknown at this time. TPF 8 will go down Feb. 18 from the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif., and will be headlined by middleweight championship scrap between Leopoldo Serao and David Loiseau. In the co-main event, Ulysses Gomez will put the promotion’s flyweight title on the line against Darrell Montague.

Lopez had only lost once in his career before joining the UFC in 2009. His promotional debut against Jim Miller wrought ghastly consequences, as Lopez dislocated his shoulder early in the second round of their UFC 103 affair. Over a year later, Lopez returned to the cage against Waylon Lowe at UFC 119. After three hard-fought rounds, Lowe was declared the victor by split decision. Lopez has finished eight of his 12 career victims, and his loss to Miller remains the only time Lopez has been put away.

A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Camoes was riding a seven-fight win streak heading into his Octagon debut against veteran Caol Uno at UFC 106. After that bout resulted in a majority draw, the 32-year-old was submitted by Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 111 and subsequently released from the promotion. Camoes is also a veteran of Strikeforce competition and owns wins over Jean Silva, Sam Morgan and Luciano Azevedo.
