Luke Rockhold seems to have ruffled a few feathers within the middleweight division during a Q & A session in advance of this weekend’s UFC 221 event in Perth, Australia.
During the pre-fight press conference, Rockhold was asked by a member of the press if fighting Romero rather than Whittaker was a tougher proposition. Rockhold replied, “I believe the three of us (including Romero and Whittaker) have separated ourselves from the pack.”
It seems others in the division didn’t take kindly to those words. Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman, who has a frosty history with Rockhold, fired back on Twitter:
“Rockhold never defended (the) belt (and) got KO’d by Bisping. He refused fights for a year and a half and fought once against (David) Branch who had him KO’d in the (first round),” said Weidman. “Yoel is coming off a loss. Whitaker if anyone has, but was just given title after GSP resigned. So Rockhold is living in la la land.”
