Lytle Considering 2012 Run for Indiana House or Senate

Chris Lytle may soon enter a different kind of fight, as the UFC welterweight veteran on Thursday announced that he is considering a run for the Indiana State House or Senate in 2012.

“I’m thinking about running because I feel we need new faces in there with the right intentions,” Lytle (Pictured; file photo) said in a statement. “My main concern is helping make Indiana a good economic environment for us and our children. I want to see if a normal blue-collar worker can make a difference.”

A native Hoosier, Lytle, 36, serves as an Indianapolis firefighter in addition to his MMA career. The New Palestine, Ind., resident plans to run as a Republican in either District 28 for the State Senate or District 53 for the State House.

In the cage, Lytle recently experienced a career resurgence, stringing together four straight wins. However, the 19-time UFC veteran had that streak snapped by Brian Ebersole in February. Ebersole kept Lytle off balance with an unorthodox striking game en route to a unanimous nod at UFC 127. A 13-year veteran of the sport, Lytle has 53 fights to his credit. Though the welterweight also campaigned as a professional boxer for a time and knocked out seven of his 13 career victims, Lytle holds only four MMA knockouts.

Lytle will face former title contender Dan Hardy in the UFC Live 5 main event on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
