The M-1 Challenge 55 headliner will move forward as planned, as both Denis Smoldarev and Maro Perak hit their contracted marks.
Smoldarev checked in a 266.7 pounds at Friday’s weigh-ins, while Perak tipped the scales at 216.2 pounds. M-1 Challenge 55 takes place in Tbilisi, Georgia on Saturday and can be viewed at www.m1global.tv beginning at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. The event is being held in honor of Georgian heavyweight Guram Gugenishvili, who was killed in a car accident last November at the age of 28.
Smoldarev suffered his first defeat in 10 professional outings last November, as he submitted to a Marcin Tybura rear-naked choke at M-1 Challenge 53. The 24-year-old Estonian has finished seven of his nine career triumphs by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
Perak also fell to Tybura in his most recent outing, succumbing to the highly-touted heavyweight prospect via third-round TKO last April at M-1 Challenge 47. The 32-year-old Croatian is 32-4-1 over the course of a career that began in 2005.
