M-1 Targeting Magalhaes-Doerr, Guseinov for March 25

By Mike Whitman Feb 25, 2011
UFC veteran Vinny Magalhaes (Pictured) will compete at M-1 Challenge 24 “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa” on March 25. Magalhaes’ opponent for the event, which goes down from the Ted Constant Convocation Center Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., will likely be undefeated Jake Doerr. While contracts have not yet been signed, both men have reportedly agreed to square off at the event.

Sherdog.com confirmed news of the bout with a source close to the fighters after MMAJunkie.com initially reported the matchup on Friday. The bout will reportedly fill the co-main event slot on a bill that will feature a lightweight championship headliner between Artiom Damkovsky and Jose Figueroa. Also scheduled for the show is a middleweight title tilt between Magomed Sultanakhmedov and Tyson Jeffries, as well as an undercard affair pitting 155-pounders Alexander Sarnavskiy and Josh Bacallao. The event will air live on Showtime.

Additionally, Sherdog.com has learned from a source that Russian striker Arthur Guseinov will likely compete in the fourth fight on the bill against a to-be-named opponent. Fighting in the “swing bout,” Guseinov may have his bout broadcast on Showtime, depending on the length of the featured attractions.

A finalist on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8, Magalhaes has won four of his last five bouts since being cut from the UFC following defeats to Ryan Bader and Eliot Marshall in 2008 and 2009. A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the 26-year-old holds all six of his career wins by submission.

Doerr has yet to taste defeat through six professional outings. The Team Howell representative has done most of his damage fighting in the Ultimate Combat Sports promotion, competing in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Doerr, who began his career in 2004, has finished all but one of his opponents by either knockout or submission.

Guseinov rides back-to-back losses for the first time in his career heading into his bout at M-1 Challenge 24. Most recently, the Action-Force Fight Team representative was submitted by UFC alum Luigi Fioravanti at M-1 Challenge 22 in December.
