MTV Announces New MMA 'Docu-Series' To Air in 2012

MTV will broadcast a new mixed martial arts-themed program beginning early in 2012, the network announced on Thursday.

"Caged," a docu-series which chronicles the lives of four young adults in small-town Louisiana, will premiere beginning on Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. The show will also air internationally on MTV channels around the world starting in May 2012.

"Caged" will follow four main characters who have recently graduated from high school: Daniel, Wes, Red and Jessica. According to the release, "the series will give an honest and powerful view into the world of passionate MMA fighters and the women in their lives, both inside and outside of the cage." MTV.com will have cast information, full episodes and interviews for the series, which is produced by Joke Fincioen and Biagio Messina of Joke Productions. Dave Sirulnick and Amy Bailey will serve as MTV's executive producers for the series.

Owned by the media conglomerate Viacom, MTV Networks has gradually added to its MMA programming content in recent years. "Bully Beatdown," the reality show hosted by "Ultimate Fighter 14" coach Jason Miller, has aired three seasons on MTV. The Bellator Fighting Championships began showing its events on MTV2 in March, though the promotion is expected to move to Spike beginning in 2013.
