Former UFC light heavyweight champions
Lyoto Machida and
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson have agreed to face off in a yet-to-be-announced UFC event tentatively scheduled for Nov. 20, Sherdog.com has learned. The venue for the event has not been finalized yet.
“My next fight is confirmed and it’s (going) to be against Rampage,” read a post on Machida’s Twitter account on Monday. Jackson’s Twitter account also acknowledged the proposed bout last week.
Machida returns to the Octagon for the first time since losing the title to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a rematch at UFC 113 last May in Montreal. Rua knocked the 32-year-old Belem, Brazil native out in the first round -- Machida’s first defeat in a 17-fight career that’s included victories over former champions
Tito Ortiz and
Rashad Evans.
Jackson is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to “The Ultimate Fighter 10” coaching rival Evans at UFC 114 in May, a performance Jackson said was marred by divided time between training and conducting publicity obligations for his starring role in the summer move blockbuster “The A-Team.”
The 32-year-old Jackson had previously posted wins against
Keith Jardine and
Wanderlei Silva. Jackson knocked Silva out at UFC 92 in December 2008, avenging two previous losses to the brawling Brazilian in Pride Fighting Championships in Japan.
