Magomed Bibulatov Aggravates Back Injury; UFC Fight Night 128 Bout with Yuta Sasaki Canned
The
Ultimate Fighting Championship’s recent history of last-minute
fight cancellations continues on.
Akhmat Fight Club standout Magomed Bibulatov has been forced to pull out of his scheduled bout against Yuta Sasaki at UFC Fight Night 128. While recent late-notice fight changes have been the result of a fighter missing weight, that wasn’t the case this time out. Unfortunately for fight fans, Bibulatov suffered a recurrence of a back injury Thursday night and was deemed medically unfit to fight.
Bibulatov was eager to rebound from his first career loss, which he suffered at the hands of John Moraga at UFC 216. Prior to the defeat, Bibulatov was riding 14-fight win streak and was predicted by many to battle his way towards title contention. Sasaki, too, was looking to rebound from a defeat, after recently losing to Jussier da Silva. His bout with Bibulatov was likely do or die for Sasaki, who has been defeated in three of his last five.
It is unknown if the UFC will look to re-book Bibulatov and Sasaki on a future card. UFC Fight Night 128 goes down Saturdaynight in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and is headlined by an intriguing lightweight clash between Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza.
