Maldonado-Kingsbury Added to ‘TUF 13’ Finale on June 4

Light heavyweights Fabio Maldonado and Kyle Kingsbury (Pictured) will square off on June 4 as part of “The Ultimate Fighter 13” finale, the UFC announced on Tuesday.

“It should be an absolute barnburner,” UFC President Dana White stated in a posting on UFC.com. Though not officially announced by the promotion, the “TUF 13” season-ender is expected to air live on Spike TV from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

A 10-year veteran of the sport, Maldonado made his Octagon debut in October, when he scored a third-round stoppage of James McSweeney at UFC 120. The win was the 30-year-old Brazilian’s 11th straight, bringing his overall ledger to 18-3. Maldonado’s only loss in the last seven years came at the hands of fellow UFC talent Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira; in that same span, Maldonado twice defeated Zuffa roster mate Maiquel Falcao.

Kingsbury, 28, comes fresh off a scorching, 21-second technical knockout of Ricardo Romero at UFC 126 on Feb. 5. The Californian used a barrage of knees to the body and follow-up punches to halt Romero, who had not been stopped in a dozen previous bouts. Since dropping his December 2008 UFC debut to fellow “TUF 8” participant Tom Lawlor, “Kingsbu” has run off three straight wins, also earning decisions over Jared Hamman and Razak Al-Hassan.
