Matt Brown will lock horns with Jake Ellenberger in a welterweight showdown at UFC 201.
ESPN.com first reported the matchup on Thursday. UFC 201 takes place at Philips Arena in Atlanta on July 30 and is headlined by a 170-pound championship tilt between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
Brown has lost three of his last four in the Octagon, but all of those defeats have come against the welterweight division’s top talents. Most recently, “The Immortal” suffered a third-round submission loss to Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia at UFC 198. His other two most recent setbacks came at the hands of Lawler and Johny Hendricks.
Ellenberger, meanwhile, has been in a prolonged slump, with losses in five of his last six UFC appearances — also against highly-ranked opponents at 170 pounds. In his last outing, “The Juggernaut” suffered a unanimous decision loss to Tarec Saffiedine at UFC on Fox 18 on Jan. 30. His only win in recent bouts came via second-round submission against Josh Koscheck at UFC 184.
