Multiple outlets have confirmed that Aldo will replace the injured Frankie Edgar and face Holloway for the featherweight title in the UFC 218 main event in Detroit on Dec. 2. MMAFighting.com was first to report the news.
Aldo was supposed to face Ricardo Lamas in a rematch in the UFC on Fox 26 headliner on Dec. 16. It is currently unclear if Lamas will remain on the card against a replacement opponent.
Holloway and Aldo initially squared off in a 145-pound title unification bout at UFC 212 on June 3 in Rio de Janeiro. Holloway would claim the undisputed crown with a technical knockout victory at the 4:13 mark of the third round.
The 25-year-old Holloway has won his last 11 Octagon appearances. Aldo has lost two of his last three bouts after winning 18 straight from May 2006 to October 2014.
