Max Holloway-Frankie Edgar Featherweight Title Clash Officially Rebooked for UFC 222

Frankie Edgar’s next and perhaps last chance to grab Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight gold is back on the schedule.

Edgar will challenge UFC 145-pound champion Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 222. MMA Junkie was first to report the rescheduled contest on Monday evening. The promotion subsequently confirmed the headliner via Twitter.

UFC 222 is scheduled for March 3 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Holloway and Edgar were originally scheduled to square off at UFC 218 on Dec. 2 in Detroit, but Edgar suffered a broken orbital bone in training that knocked him out of the fight. Instead, Holloway made the first defense of his UFC title against the man he won it from the previous June, all-time featherweight king Jose Aldo.

Holloway's UFC 218 win over Aldo, a second third-round stoppage of the Brazilian legend, gave him his 12th straight victory inside the Octagon. The 26-year-old Hawaiian hasn’t lost since his August 2013 unanimous decision defeat to current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Edgar, 36, was defeated by the aforementioned Aldo for a second time at UFC 200 in July 2016, vying for the UFC interim featherweight championship. Since the defeat, “The Answer” has gone on to defeat rugged veteran Jeremy Stephens and destroy Mexican prospect Yair Rodriguez this past May.
